A First Person Bio

In an effort of transparency I will not pretend to be someone else writing my biography. Hello, I'm Adam, and this is my professional website. I've rented adamschatz.com for the next five years, after which I'll be auctioning it off and buying a boat with my earnings. I'll also be buying boating lessons. I was born in 1987 and play music using mostly keyboards, saxophone, various pedals and knobs, and my voice.

I have a dramatically imaginative and functional recording studio in Southern Vermont, where I spend much of my time when I'm not on tour. Most recently I've been actively on tour with Japanese Breakfast and Neko Case.

Beyond those two I've  performed live with Sylvan Esso, Wye Oak, Gia Margaret, Hand Habits, Man Man, William Tyler & others.

I've produced records for Casey Dienel, Sarah Goldstone, Allegra Krieger, Renata Zeiguer and I think they're all just terrific.

I have played instruments on albums by Steady Holiday, Miley Cyrus, Wild Pink, Gia Margaret, Small Black, Y La Bamba, Tallest Man On Earth, Caroline Rose, White Denim, Deep Sea Diver, Those Darlins, Adia Victoria, Man Man, Why?, Rostam, Vampire Weekend, Quilt, Sleigh Bells, She Keeps Bees & others.

My own songs are released under the name Landlady and my improvising instrumentally music has just been released under the name Civil Engineering, with lots more to come on both sides.

I often come up with excuses to organize special concert projects. Those have included:
